Frequently Asked Questions

About OCD Doodles

  • OCD Doodles is a collection of visual OCD resources created to help people understand OCD more clearly. It includes doodles, diagrams, printable tools, and educational resources designed to support reflection, understanding, and conversation.

  • .OCD Doodles is created by Laura Johnson - a lived experience advocate and former research scientist.

It was inspired by lived experience of OCD and a desire to create the kinds of visual resources that make difficult experiences easier to recognise, explain, and talk about.

  • I created OCD Doodles initially as a way to process my own therapy notes and make sense of what I was learning. Over time, I began to wonder whether these visual resources might also help other people feel more understood, recognise their own experiences, and have more open conversations about OCD.

  • No. I am not a therapist or clinician. My doctorate is a PhD in Molecular Virology, so while I am comfortable understanding and communicating scientific ideas, I am not qualified to diagnose, treat, or provide therapy for OCD. OCD Doodles is rooted in lived experience and visual communication, and I do not offer coaching or treatment.

OCD Resources & Learning

  • OCD stands for obsessive-compulsive disorder. It can involve intrusive thoughts, feelings, urges, images, or doubts, along with compulsions such as checking, rumination, reassurance seeking, avoidance, or other responses aimed at reducing distress, doubt or uncertainty. Read more

  • You can explore visual OCD resources on OCD Doodles, including The OCD Cycle, a simple and popular visual resource designed to show how obsessions, anxiety, and compulsions can interact.

  • Yes. OCD Doodles offers downloadable visual resources, including the free 40 Non-Engagement Responses resource. It’s a resource I created from lived experience and one I wish I’d had earlier in my own journey. It is not a substitute for therapy or professional support, but a visual tool that may help with reflection and understanding.

  • You can browse OCD Doodles on Instagram for visual posts that may help explain OCD to family members and loved ones. If you’d like a downloadable version to keep or print, you can explore my Personal Use Lifetime Licences. I also share recommended books and other support resources on the Resources page.

  • OCD Doodles features 8 Self-Help Principles for OCD, a visual resource based on Reid Wilson’s principles and created with his permission as a charity print. His words and principles have helped me personally, and this doodle is my way of making them more visual and accessible, or simply another way to take them in. I’m not a therapist, and this is not a substitute for professional support, but it is a resource I wish more people with OCD, and the people around them, knew about.

  • Yes. The Resources section includes books, podcasts, charities, apps, films, and other supportive recommendations related to OCD, learning, and understanding.

Support & Boundaries

  • No. I do not offer coaching, therapy, or 1:1 support. OCD Doodles is a visual resource project based on lived experience, not a clinical service. I care deeply about people with OCD getting the right help from a qualified, regulated therapist with appropriate training in OCD and ERP.

  • I can share general information about OCD Doodles and point you towards relevant resources on the site, but I do not provide personal advice, therapy, or one-to-one support. That boundary is important to me, because OCD deserves safe, evidence-based treatment from properly qualified professionals.

  • I may share general directories, charities, or organisations that could be a useful starting point. I am also always happy to recommend the therapist who treated me, as I had a very positive experience with them. I feel strongly that OCD should be treated by a qualified, regulated therapist with relevant training in OCD and ERP, especially because I previously had a very difficult experience with an unregulated online “expert by experience.” I would always encourage anyone seeking support to check qualifications, regulation, and OCD-specific experience carefully.

Membership

  • OCD Doodles provides visual resources designed for qualified therapists and clinicians to use in 1:1 client work. These are available through the Visual Resource Library membership and selected Single Practitioner Lifetime Licences.

  • The OCD Doodles membership gives you access to the Visual Resource Library - a growing collection of visual OCD resources designed to support conversations in 1:1 client work. Resources can be accessed and used during an active subscription, with both monthly and annual membership options available.

  • The membership is for qualified therapists and clinicians who would like to use OCD Doodles resources in their own 1:1 work with clients. To help protect both the work and the people receiving support, membership is not available to unqualified individuals. OCD Doodles does not permit experts by experience or unqualified coaches to use the resources in a coaching setting.

  • No. The membership is only available to qualified therapists and clinicians using the resources in their own 1:1 client work. To help protect both the work and the people it is used with, OCD Doodles does not permit experts by experience or unqualified coaches to join the membership or use the resources in a coaching setting. If you are looking for something for your own reflection or understanding, you can explore the Personal Use Lifetime Licences instead.

  • Membership includes access to a growing library of downloadable visual resources, including doodles, diagrams, and printable tools designed to support understanding, reflection, and conversation around OCD in 1:1 settings. If you’d like an easy place to begin, the Starter Collection is a good starting point, these are the doodles I wish every therapist gave to people with OCD.

  • A good place to start is the Starter Collection, which brings together some of the core OCD Doodles resources in one place. These are the doodles I personally wish every therapist gave to people with OCD. Therapists can also explore the wider Visual Resource Library or choose selected Single Practitioner Lifetime Licences for individual resources.

  • You can join through the Become a Member page, where you can view the available membership options and choose the one that fits your practice.

  • Yes, where your membership terms allow it. Membership is designed to support use in your own 1:1 client work during an active subscription. You can read more on the relevant Usage and Licensing pages.

  • No. Membership does not include public posting, resale, redistribution, or sharing outside the permitted licence terms. If you would like to use OCD Doodles in a course, workbook, membership, or other paid content, please see the Paid Content Licences section.

  • No. If your membership ends, access and permitted use of membership resources also ends. Downloaded files must be deleted and use must cease unless you hold a separate lifetime licence for specific resources.

  • A good place to start is the Single Practitioner Starter Collection. It gives you lifetime access to a small selection of core resources, so you can see whether OCD Doodles is a good fit for your work before deciding on membership. If you later join the membership, those selected resources are included there too - but if you cancel your membership, your separate lifetime licence for the Starter Collection would still stand.

Licensing & Using OCD Doodles

  • All OCD Doodles resources are protected by copyright. When you purchase or access a resource, you are buying permission to use it in a specific way, not ownership of the artwork itself.

  • OCD Doodles offers Personal Use Lifetime Licences, Single Practitioner Lifetime Licences, therapist membership, and Paid Content Licences.

  • A Personal Use Lifetime Licence gives you ongoing access to a purchased resource for your own personal use, reflection, and understanding.

  • A Single Practitioner Lifetime Licence allows one qualified practitioner to use a purchased resource in their own 1:1 client work.

  • A Paid Content Licence is for selected uses such as courses, workbooks, memberships, or other paid content. These uses are not covered by personal use licences, practitioner licences, or membership.

  • Not without the appropriate licence. If you want to use OCD Doodles in a course, workbook, membership, paid content, business material, or wider distribution, you will need a Paid Content Licence.

  • If you are a qualified therapist or clinician, you can use OCD Doodles through the Visual Resource Library membership or through selected Single Practitioner Lifetime Licences, depending on what you need.

  • If you have an active membership or a Single Practitioner Lifetime Licence, you may use OCD Doodles in educational presentations connected to your own work, provided the presentation is given by the licence holder and the use is not paid, sold, or distributed more widely. Members may also create their own worksheets using the doodles for use with their own clients, but these must not be shared with other therapists, distributed publicly, or sold. Paid teaching, paid presentations, courses, workbooks, memberships, and other wider use require a Paid Content Licence. If you are unsure, please contact me before proceeding or submit a paid content licence enquiry.

  • You are very welcome to repost content directly from the OCD Doodles Instagram, as long as it is a repost of my original post. Please do not upload saved copies of the images yourself, as this can affect quality, cropping, and attribution. Resources from the Visual Resource Library and all lifetime licences are not permitted to be shared on social media. If you would like to share OCD Doodles files directly to your own social media, website, or blog, please fill out a Paid Content Licence enquiry form. This helps protect the work and make sure it is being used in the right way.

  • No. OCD Doodles branding should remain visible unless you have specific written permission stating otherwise.

  • No. Membership-based access is only valid during an active subscription unless you hold a separate lifetime licence for specific resources.
